The main city of Derry is of the same name as the county, and is also known as Londonderry which dates back to the 6th century. Derry is very close to County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland and shares a dramatic landscape and coastline with its neighbour. Outside of Derry city there is the Bellaghy Bawn Museum, which provides an insight into the history of the Ulster Plantation and also the writings of the famous Irish poet Seamus Heaney. The Mussenden Temple which is owned and managed by the National Trust for Northern Ireland and forms part of the Downhill Estate & Mussenden Temple visitor attraction.
